Choosing Your Path in Citizen Sleeper 2: A Class Comparison
At the outset of Citizen Sleeper 2, you'll face a crucial decision: Operator, Machinist, or Extractor? This guide breaks down each class, helping you select the best fit for your playstyle and roleplaying preferences.
Operator
The Operator boasts a +1 in Interface, foundational levels in Intuit and Engage, and a complete lack of Engineer skills. Endure remains unlevelable. Their unique ability lets them trade Stress for a re-roll of their lowest die.
While powerful at higher levels, the Operator can feel somewhat challenging in the early game. The Interface skill is valuable, but the re-roll ability isn't a guaranteed win, leaving you vulnerable to poor outcomes. Roleplaying-wise, the Operator offers versatility, adapting to various character concepts.
Machinist
The Machinist starts with a +1 in Engineer, along with base levels in Interface and Intuit. Engage remains inaccessible. Their ability allows a Stress exchange for a +2 bonus to their lowest die, further enhanced as the game progresses, and they lose 2 Stress on a positive outcome.
This class proved a favorite in my playthrough. The ability to mitigate Stress and the inherent strengths in Engineer and Interface, often lacking in crew members, proved invaluable. The Machinist is ideal for players focused on the game's technical and mechanical aspects.
Extractor
The Extractor begins with a +1 in Endure, accompanied by base levels in Engineer and Engage. Intuit remains unlevelable. Their ability involves sacrificing Stress to add +2 to the lowest die of a crew member, an ability that significantly improves as the game advances.
The Extractor's ability shines in managing crew risks during Contracts. The initial Endure bonus is also a considerable advantage, given the game's frequent Endure checks. However, an abundance of crew members with Endure and Engage might lessen this advantage. This class suits players who prefer a more physically robust, hands-on approach.
Ultimately, the optimal class depends on individual preferences. Consider your preferred playstyle and desired character archetype when making your selection.
