Sid Meier’s Civilization VI is set to receive a highly anticipated update on June 12th, aligning its Android version with all other platforms in terms of content, features, and gameplay adjustments. This significant update brings a host of new units, maps, modes, and much-needed fixes to the mobile experience.
New Units, Maps, and Modes
Aspyr is delivering a robust update to enhance the Civ VI experience for mobile gamers. Three new units are joining the roster, starting with the Trebuchet, a powerful Medieval siege unit that surpasses the Catapult and later evolves into the Bombard. Next is the Man-At-Arms, which upgrades from the Swordsman and transforms into the Musketman. Rounding out the lineup is the Line Infantry, an Industrial-era unit that follows the Musketman and eventually becomes Infantry.
Players can now explore the Mediterranean Large Map and the Earth Huge Map. These maps feature more realistic terrain and resources, along with variants that allow you to begin at the historical capital of your chosen civilization. Additionally, a new mode called the Tech and Civic Shuffle Mode introduces shuffled techs and civics within each era, offering fresh pathways. Another exciting addition is the Barbarian Clans Mode, replacing traditional Barbarian Tribes with seven unique clans that can evolve into City-States.
Two new features are making their debut in the Android version: the Natural Wonder Picker and the City-State Picker. These tools let you customize which wonders and city-states appear in your games. The new Leader Selection Pool also offers a curated list of leaders, including the introduction of Julius Caesar.
New Passes and Expansions
In addition to the new units and maps, two new passes are launching alongside the update. The New Frontier Pass, priced at $29.99, includes eight new civilizations, nine new leaders, and six new game modes. The Leader Pass, available for $19.99, adds 12 new leaders and six alternative versions of classic leaders. These expansions have been available on other platforms for some time.
