Jon Hamm Seeks MCU Debut

by Lucy Jan 19,2025

Renowned actor Jon Hamm is closer than ever to making his MCU debut. Hamm, best known for his role in Mad Men, is currently in negotiations with Marvel to adapt a comic book storyline that has piqued his interest. He's even actively pitched himself for multiple MCU roles.

Hamm's history with Marvel adaptations is well-documented, though previously unsuccessful. He was originally cast as Mister Sinister in Fox's X-Men franchise, specifically for The New Mutants. However, due to the film's production troubles, his scenes were ultimately cut.

A recent Hollywood Reporter profile revealed Hamm's renewed interest in the MCU. He confirmed pitching himself for several roles, specifically mentioning a favorite comic book he’d like to see adapted. Upon learning Marvel shared his enthusiasm for the adaptation, Hamm confidently declared his suitability for the part.

While the specific comic book remains undisclosed, fan speculation runs rampant. A popular choice is Doctor Doom, a role Hamm expressed interest in last year, further cementing his long-standing fandom for Marvel Comics. Following the Mister Sinister setback, he highlighted Doctor Doom and the Fantastic Four as particularly compelling characters.

Hamm's career is marked by a deliberate avoidance of stereotypical leading man roles, instead opting for parts that genuinely resonate with him. His recent high-profile appearances in Fargo and The Morning Show have solidified his current relevance, making his potential MCU entry even more anticipated.

Despite previously declining the role of Green Lantern, Hamm remains eager to portray a comic book character. His past choices suggest a preference for complex, villainous roles, making Doctor Doom a strong contender, though his involvement in the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot remains unconfirmed. The possibility of a Disney-produced Mister Sinister role also remains open. Ultimately, the future of Hamm's MCU involvement hinges on the success of the current collaboration between him and Marvel.
