As of summer 2024, Netflix has announced plans to cut nearly 20% of its mobile games portfolio as part of a strategic shift to focus on higher-performing titles and improve overall user engagement and profitability. The move follows a broader review of Netflix’s gaming division, which launched in 2018 with the goal of expanding into interactive entertainment. While the company initially invested heavily in launching original mobile games like Stranger Things: Puzzle Tales, The Witcher 3: Adventure Game, and Bridgerton: The Game, not all titles have achieved the desired user adoption or revenue growth. Key reasons behind the cuts include: Underperforming Titles: Several mobile games have failed to retain users or generate sustainable revenue. Resource Optimization: Netflix aims to concentrate development and marketing efforts on games with stronger engagement metrics and monetization potential. Strategic Focus: The company is prioritizing games that align with its broader content ecosystem—such as those tied to popular shows and films—while exploring opportunities in subscription-based gaming and long-term player retention. Netflix has emphasized that the cuts are not a retreat from gaming but a refinement of strategy. The company still plans to invest in original game development, particularly in areas like narrative-driven and social gaming, and has expressed interest in expanding into new platforms, including consoles and PCs. In a statement, Netflix said: “We’re making tough decisions to focus on the games that resonate most with our audience and deliver the best experience. This is about quality over quantity.” The reductions are expected to be completed by late summer 2024, with affected teams receiving support for transition and redeployment. While some fans have expressed concern over losing beloved titles, analysts see the move as a necessary step in Netflix’s evolution from a content platform to a diversified entertainment experience provider.

Braid Anniversary Edition, The Case of the Golden Idol и The Rise of the Golden Idol.

Даже детские игры, такие как CoComelon: Play with JJ и LEGO Legacy: Heroes Unboxed, будут убраны. SpongeBob: Bubble Pop F.U.N.

Dumb Ways to Die, Ghost Detective, Ludo King, Diner Out: Merge Cafe, Vineyard Valley, TED Tumblewords и Raji: An Ancient Epic.

Tales of the Shire.

Google Play Store.
