Scheduled for release on PC via Steam and GOG later this year, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Definitive Edition delivers the authentic gameplay that fans recall, now fully optimized for modern systems. For years, fans have eagerly awaited a revival of the Dawn of War series. Returning to the first game—often hailed as one of the finest Warhammer 40,000 titles ever created—offers a fitting starting point. The community hopes Relic will leverage this release as a foundation for developing an all-new entry, potentially a Dawn of War 4.

The Definitive Edition bundles all original Dawn of War content and its standalone expansions into one complete package, featuring four classic campaigns, nine distinct armies, and more than 200 maps. It introduces 4K compatibility, upscaled textures (quadruple the original resolution), and image-based lighting, enhancing visual fidelity without sacrificing the classic feel. Global lighting, unit reflections, and shadow effects have all been refined, while new gloss and emissive lighting treatments bring dynamic combat moments to life with greater clarity.

An extended camera zoom allows a broader view of the battlefield, and the interface has been redesigned for widescreen displays. Upgraded to a 64-bit architecture, Dawn of War now better supports the modding community, maintaining compatibility with over two decades of player-created modifications from day one.

“With Warhammer 40,000 enjoying unprecedented popularity, we aim to introduce new players to the origins of the Dawn of War legacy while giving longtime supporters a polished, comprehensive way to revisit it.”

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Definitive Edition made its debut during the Warhammer Skulls 2025 showcase. For those who missed the event, catch up on all the major reveals and trailers from the presentation.
