The Witcher saga continues! Nearly a decade after the critically acclaimed The Witcher 3, a first look at The Witcher 4 has arrived, introducing Ciri as the new protagonist.
As fans will remember, Ciri is Geralt's adopted daughter. With Geralt's trilogy concluded, the spotlight shifts to the next generation. The trailer depicts Ciri intervening in a village gripped by a superstitious ritual—sacrificing a young woman to a monster. Ciri's attempt to rescue the woman reveals a far more complex and sinister situation.
No official release date has been announced for The Witcher 4. Considering the development times of The Witcher 3 (3.5-4 years) and Cyberpunk 2077 (even longer), and the early stage of production, a release within three to four years seems plausible.
While platforms remain unconfirmed, given the projected timeline, a current-generation console focus is likely. However, no platform exclusivity has been declared. We expect simultaneous releases on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. A Switch port, unlike The Witcher 3, seems improbable, though a potential Switch 2 version might be feasible.
Gameplay details are scarce, but CD Projekt Red is unlikely to drastically alter the core gameplay mechanics of its flagship franchise. The CGI trailer hints at returning elements like potions, signs, and two phrases. A potentially new addition is Ciri's chain, used for both trapping monsters and channeling magic.
Voice actor Doug Cockle (Geralt) previously confirmed Geralt's involvement, though not as the central figure. The trailer includes Geralt's voice, fueling speculation about a mentor role for the veteran Witcher.
