Witcher 4 Protagonist Choice Deemed Organic

CD Projekt Red confirms Ciri will be the protagonist of The Witcher 4, a decision driven by both narrative progression and the potential inherent in the character. Executive producer Malgorzata Mitrega explains that Geralt's story arc concluded in The Witcher 3, leaving Ciri, a richly developed character in both the books and games, as the natural successor. This allows for fresh creative avenues and a new narrative focus.

Director Sebastian Kalemba highlights Ciri's younger age as a key factor, offering greater flexibility in character development compared to the established Geralt. Discussions regarding this protagonist shift began nearly a decade ago, underscoring CD Projekt Red's long-term vision for Ciri's role. The new challenges and perspectives Ciri faces promise a similarly epic storyline.

Voice actor Doug Cockle, the voice of Geralt, supports the change, acknowledging Ciri's vast potential. While Geralt will feature in The Witcher 4, his role will be secondary, ensuring the narrative centers on Ciri's journey and unique perspective.
