Deadlock Update Schedule to Shift in 2025

Valve has announced a change of pace for Deadlock updates in 2025, prioritizing fewer, larger patches over the frequent updates of 2024. This decision, communicated via the official Deadlock Discord, stems from challenges in maintaining the previous two-week update cycle. While this may disappoint some players accustomed to constant changes, it promises more substantial updates with a greater impact.

Deadlock, Valve's free-to-play MOBA, launched on Steam earlier this year after initial gameplay leaks. It quickly gained traction in the competitive hero-shooter market, even standing out against the popular Marvel Rivals thanks to its unique steampunk aesthetic and polished gameplay. The game has undergone significant evolution throughout 2024, but Valve aims to refine its update strategy for a more impactful experience.

According to PCGamesN, Valve developer Yoshi explained the shift: "Our fixed two-week cycle has made it more difficult to iterate on certain changes internally and hasn't always allowed sufficient time for changes to settle before the next update." This revised approach will feature larger, event-like updates instead of smaller, more frequent patches. Hotfixes will still be deployed as needed.

The recent winter update showcased this new direction, offering a refreshing change from the year's balance adjustments. Expect to see more limited-time events and special game modes as Deadlock's development continues. Yoshi confirmed, "Major patches will no longer be on a fixed schedule. These will be larger and more spaced out."

Currently boasting 22 playable characters and an additional 8 in Hero Labs mode, Deadlock has already garnered praise for its diverse roster and innovative anti-cheat measures. While an official release date remains unannounced, further news and updates are anticipated in 2025.
