"Upgrade Weapons in Atomfall: A Guide"

by Allison May 03,2025

In *Atomfall*, upgrading your weapons not only enhances their stats but also adds a sleek new skin and can unlock the coveted 'Make do and mend' trophy. Here's a detailed guide on how to upgrade your weapons in *Atomfall*.

How to Unlock the Gunsmithing Skill in Atomfall

Atomfall Village ShopAtomfall Crafting Manual To begin upgrading your weapons, you must first unlock the Gunsmithing skill. This essential survival skill can be learned by reading the Crafting Manual. While finding skill-related books in *Atomfall* can be challenging, there's a straightforward method to acquire the Crafting Manual.

Morris Wick, located at the Village Shop in Wyndham, holds a copy of the Crafting Manual. However, obtaining it from him requires more than just bartering; it involves a bit of blackmail. Upon entering St. Katherine’s Church, you'll discover the recent murder of Maisie and the Vicar's attempt to cover it up. Further investigation will lead you to evidence implicating Morris in the crime.

To find this evidence, head to the Brewery Cellar at coordinates 30.5 E, 80.5 N in the west of Wyndham Village. Enter through the cellar door by the ruined building and search for the note titled “Kill the One They Call Maisie”. Once you have the note, return to Morris’ Village Shop at 33.3 E, 79.9 N. Engage in dialogue with Morris, carefully choosing options that pressure him without outright threats until you reach the “Bargaining” choice. Selecting this will prompt Morris to hand over the Crafting Manual in exchange for your silence.

Alternatively, the Crafting Manual can be found in the D Section of The Interchange, though this method is more challenging and time-consuming.

After acquiring and reading the Crafting Manual, you must spend 7 Training Stimulants to unlock the Gunsmith skill. This skill will give you access to the recipes needed to craft upgraded weapons. To gather enough Training Stimulants, explore B.A.R.D. structures such as Bunkers and The Interchange.

How To Craft Weapon Upgrades in Atomfall

Atomfall Falkirk Battle Rifle Upgrade Once you have the Crafting Manual and the Gunsmith skill, you'll be equipped with recipes to craft weapon upgrades. When you obtain a weapon, you'll unlock the recipe for its next highest tier, progressing from Rusty to Stock, and finally to Pristine. To upgrade a weapon, you'll need two units of the weapon in its previous tier, along with specific amounts of Gun Oil and Scrap, which may vary depending on the weapon.

For instance, upgrading the Falkirk Battle Rifle to Pristine requires 2 Falkirk Battle Rifle (Stock) items, 3 Gun Oil, and 6 Scrap. Gun Oil and Scrap are commonly found at military installations like Protocol Camps. If you plan on frequently upgrading weapons, consider investing in the Deep Pockets survival skill to increase your capacity for carrying crafting supplies.

Upon upgrading a weapon to Pristine for the first time, you'll earn the 'Make do and mend' Achievement or Trophy.

*Atomfall* is currently available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox Game Pass.
