Hyper Light Breaker offers players a diverse array of characters, known as Breakers, each with unique playstyles to combat the formidable Abyss King. Unlocking new characters in this game is straightforward yet not explicitly explained, so let's dive into how you can expand your roster.
This guide is tailored for the early access version of Hyper Light Breaker, featuring only two unlockable characters at launch. We will keep this guide updated as more Breakers become available.
How to Get New Characters in Hyper Light Breaker
To unlock new characters, players must collect Abyss Stones, which are dropped exclusively by defeating Crowns, the game's bosses. Before facing these bosses, you'll need to acquire Prisms, which serve as keys to the boss arenas. These Prisms can be located on the map by following the golden diamond icon.
After defeating a Crown, return to the Cursed Outpost via the teleporter, and choose the Breaker you wish to unlock. Use your Abyss Stones to make the character available for play. Although the game currently features nine different characters, only two can be unlocked at this stage by collecting Abyss Stones. It remains to be seen if the method to unlock the remaining characters will differ.
All Characters in Hyper Light Breaker
Each character in Hyper Light Breaker starts with a SyCom, a pivotal item that sets their base stats and core perk, shaping their unique playstyle. Here's a detailed look at each character and what they bring to the table:
Vermillion
Vermillion is your starting character, equipped with the Gunslinger SyCom, which is tailored for ranged combat with a balanced stat package. His Rail shots have a unique feature where a critical hit guarantees the next shot will also be a crit.
For those who prefer close combat, Vermillion can switch to the Tank SyCom, which boosts armor upon perfect parries and offers superior defensive and melee stats, making it a safer choice overall.
Lapis
Lapis also leans towards Rail combat with her Lightweaver SyCom, which enhances Rail shot damage after collecting a Battery. Her standout feature, however, is the Warrior SyCom, which increases her core stats with every upgrade, making her potentially the most powerful character in terms of raw stats if you can amass enough upgrades.
Goro
Goro is designed for players who excel in ranged combat. His default Astrologer SyCom allows for faster charging of Blade skills while shooting, and his unlockable Sniper SyCom boosts his critical hit rate, making him a high-risk, high-reward choice. Without a defensive SyCom, Goro requires skillful play to maximize his effectiveness on the battlefield.
