Ubisoft quietly launches a new NFT game: Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E.
Ubisoft's latest foray into the NFT gaming space, Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E, has been discreetly released. This top-down multiplayer arcade shooter requires players to purchase an NFT to participate.
As reported by Eurogamer on December 20th, the game expands the universe of the Netflix series, Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix, incorporating familiar Ubisoft IPs like Watch Dogs and Assassin's Creed.
Limited to 10,000 players, access requires purchasing a Citizen ID Card NFT. This card tracks player achievements and evolves based on in-game performance. The card, priced at $25.63, is available via Ubisoft's claim page and requires a crypto wallet. Citizens can also relinquish their citizenship and sell their IDs on the secondary market.
According to Ubisoft's Magic Eden page, a full launch is slated for Q1 2025, with early access granted to those who secured IDs early.
The game's setting mirrors the Netflix series, a spin-off of Far Cry 3's Blood Dragon DLC. Set in a dystopian 1992 where the US is a megacorporation-controlled technocracy called Eden, the series follows Dolph Laserhawk, a supersoldier, and his tumultuous journey.
While Ubisoft remains tight-lipped on the game's plot, players will operate as citizens within Eden's system, influencing the narrative through mission completion, leaderboard rankings, and community engagement.
