Toxic Avenger: Unrated Cut's Unseen Scene Hits Theaters

by Michael Jul 30,2026

Fans have long awaited the arrival of Macon Blair’s Toxic Avenger reboot, and in just a few weeks, their patience will finally be rewarded. That said, it looks like a few unofficial previews have already surfaced online—and horror news site Bloody Disgusting has verified the rumors, giving audiences a firsthand look at just how unrestrained the theatrical cut will be.

Earlier this week, a user on r/LeaksAndRumors shared a still directly from the film, along with the caption: “A friend at Cineverse hosted a private screening and showed a few scenes from the new Toxic Avenger, a reboot of the original 1984 movie. I managed to snap a pretty epic picture.” The image featured Toxie, played by Peter Dinklage, in a rather awkward predicament that forces him to use an unconventional escape method—one that involves revealing his most private body part.

According to a Bloody Disgusting report discussing the leak, "Toxie ends up in an unusual bind where his only way out is to turn his radioactive urine into a weapon—so yes, he literally urinates his way out of trouble. In the Unrated version, Toxie unzips and fully exposes his so-called 'Monster Dong.' Now that the moment is making the rounds on Reddit and other platforms, we figured we’d just come clean and confirm it."

The outlet, which is owned by the production and distribution company Cineverse, also included a statement from Cineverse’s VP of network strategy, Tom Owens. Owens co-founded Bloody Disgusting back in 2001 with Brad Miska.

“Terrifier 2 and Terrifier 3 also made theater chains a little nervous, but in the end, things turned out well for everyone involved. We allowed Damien Leone complete creative freedom with those films, and we’ve done the same for Macon Blair and The Toxic Avenger,” he explained. “Releasing anything less than the full Unrated version would have defeated the purpose. While some studios shy away from pushing boundaries, we embrace it. By giving filmmakers true artistic control, we make certain their work reaches viewers exactly as intended—authentic and uncensored.”

This leak comes just a few months after the film’s official social media accounts announced that the theatrical release would be an unrated cut. They shared an image of Elijah Wood’s villain, Fritz Harbinger, marked with an “unrated” label and a promise of “ultra-violent/toxic scenes, urine-based gags, mutant nudity, and all-out cinematic chaos.” Now fans know exactly what that "piss play" entails.

The Toxic Avenger debuted at Fantastic Fest in September 2023, but then spent nearly two years without a release, despite its wildly positive festival reception—reportedly because it was considered “unreleasable,” even in its R-rated form. Cineverse eventually acquired the film, and audiences will finally get to see it when it arrives in theaters later this month. That said, the unprecedented nature of the unrated cut—never before screened publicly—has made some theater owners a bit apprehensive.

The Toxic Avenger opens in theaters nationwide on August 29, 2025.
