Unveiled at Tokyo Game Show 2024's Xbox showcase, Threads of Time is currently in development for Xbox Series X/S and Steam. While a release date remains unannounced, PS5 and Nintendo Switch versions are also yet to be confirmed.
Already generating buzz, Threads of Time is poised to rival Sea of Stars as a spiritual successor to Square Enix's Chrono series. This retro-style RPG from indie studio Riyo Games promises a captivating story and memorable characters.
"Riyo Games aims to create retro-inspired RPGs that evoke cherished childhood memories," the studio stated in a press release. "Our journey began with a childhood promise – two friends playing RPGs on a CRT TV, dreaming of one day crafting their own fantastical adventures."
Boasting stunning 2.5D pixel art, Threads of Time features a diverse cast journeying through various eras, from dinosaurs to robots. Their quest: to unravel a sinister plot threatening the very fabric of time. The game enhances its pixel art with high-quality anime cutscenes, enriching the narrative experience.
The party includes intriguing characters: Rye, a swordsman from 1000 AD; Bo, a veterinarian from 12,000,000 BC; Rin, a kitsune from 2400 AD; and more.
