How to Switch Characters in Dynasty Warriors: Origins

Quick Links

In Dynasty Warriors: Origins, you'll primarily embark on a thrilling journey as the Wanderer, striving to restore peace across the land. Along the way, you'll encounter various choices within the main storyline, and regardless of your decisions, you'll often be accompanied by powerful companions who will join you in battle.

These companions not only stay by your side but also follow you across the battlefield. Moreover, you have the unique opportunity to take control of them at certain points. Given their formidable strength, playing as your companions can often be more effective than continuing as the Wanderer, even with his upgrades. Let's dive into how you can switch characters and leverage their abilities.

How To Switch Characters In Dynasty Warriors: Origins

Switching to play as your companion is contingent on having them by your side during a fight. Before the battle, during the war council, you'll see an option to select your companion. While you can choose to go into battle alone, this choice locks out the ability to switch characters mid-fight. Once the battle starts, keep an eye on the bottom right of your screen where you'll see your companion's health bar positioned just above your own.

Below their health bar, you'll notice a blue bar similar to your Musou bar. This bar fills up through various combat actions, including:

  • Parrying attacks
  • Perfect dodging
  • Assaulting Officers
  • Using Weapon Arts

Virtually every combat action contributes to filling this bar, albeit at varying rates.

When the blue bar for your companion reaches full capacity, a "Change Character" button will appear adjacent to the bar. To switch characters, press and hold this button for about a second. The button to do this is the View Button on Xbox, C on PC, or the Touchpad on PlayStation.

Playing As Other Characters In Dynasty Warriors: Origins

It's advisable to switch to another character during intense battles, as your companions possess immense power. However, remember that you'll only control them for roughly a minute. The blue bar that allowed the switch will gradually deplete, indicating the time remaining in your control. Your new character will come equipped with full Bravery and a suite of potent combat arts ready for use.

Switching characters also triggers a dramatic entrance into the battle with a significant attack, so aim at an enemy when you make the switch. Your companion will have their own Musou and health bars, already full, enabling you to unleash their unique special attack to wreak havoc on your foes.
