Excitement is building as DC's next major film, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, has officially started production. To mark this milestone, DC Studios head James Gunn took to Bluesky to share the first glimpse of Milly Alcock as Supergirl. While it's not a full costume reveal, the image of Alcock seated in her actor's chair is a thrilling tease for fans eager to see her portrayal of Kara Zor-El.

In his announcement, Gunn expressed his enthusiasm about the project, stating, "Thrilled to see camera roll at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden on Supergirl, with Craig Gillespie at the helm and the phenomenal Milly Alcock as our Kara Zor-El." This confirms that Gillespie, renowned for directing Cruella and I, Tonya, will be directing the film, as previously reported in April.
While plot details remain under wraps, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is set to be heavily inspired by the acclaimed graphic novel of the same name by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Nogueira. This standalone story follows an alien girl, Ruthye Marye Knoll, who recruits Supergirl to avenge her father's murder at the hands of the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills. The comic was nominated for "Best Limited Series" at the 2022 Eisner Awards and is highly recommended for those yet to explore its pages.
Joining Milly Alcock in the cast are Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem, Eve Ridley as Ruthye, David Krumholtz as Supergirl's father Zor-El, Emily Beecham as Supergirl's mother, and Jason Momoa, who has been recast in the DC universe as Lobo.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow marks the second installment in the newly rebooted DC universe, following James Gunn's Superman set to hit theaters this summer. Other projects in development include The Batman Part II (which may or may not be connected to Gunn's cinematic universe) and a rumored Clayface movie from Mike Flanagan.
