Star Wars: Hunters, despite not even reaching its first birthday, is set to celebrate its one-year anniversary before shutting down. But is there any real reason to celebrate a game's demise?
When is the Star Wars: Hunters Shutdown?
The servers are officially closing on October 1st, 2025, a mere nine months after its launch. Players will have a few extra weeks to complete Season 5, which ends April 15th.
Zynga, the developer and publisher, will release a final content update on April 15th, introducing a new free Support Hunter, Tuya. In-app purchases will be disabled on the same day. Ranked Mode will remain active until the servers close, and season events will be rerun. Remember to spend any remaining Crystals; no refunds will be offered.
A Predictable End?
While unfortunate, the shutdown of Star Wars: Hunters feels almost inevitable in hindsight. Multiple delays following its 2020 announcement, limited beta testing (SEA and ANZAC regions only), a lack of major console support, and a generally lukewarm reception all contributed to its downfall.
The game's design choices also seem questionable. Instead of leveraging the iconic characters of the Star Wars universe, it opted for generic original characters, a missed opportunity that likely hindered its appeal.
