Spider-Man 2 came out on PC and was hacked within an hour

Marvel's Spider-Man 2's PC launch on Steam and the Epic Games Store was notable for its lack of pre-order and pre-download options, resulting in a massive 140GB download. This absence of early access proved to be a significant factor in the game's rapid cracking.

Within an hour of release, pirated copies were circulating, highlighting the relatively light anti-piracy measures implemented. Sony's understated marketing campaign, coupled with late-breaking system requirements, further contributed to the situation.

Despite this, Spider-Man 2 debuted strongly, currently holding the seventh position among Sony's biggest Steam releases. This places it behind titles like God of War, Horizon, and Days Gone.

Initial player reception, however, has been mixed. At the time of writing, the game boasts a 55% positive rating based on over 1,280 reviews, with optimization issues, crashes, and bugs frequently cited.

Spider-Man Remastered remains the undisputed PC champion in terms of concurrent players, having once peaked at over 66,000. The weekend's performance will be crucial in determining whether Spider-Man 2 can match its predecessor's success, but current sales trends suggest a promising outcome.
