Sony Removes PS3 Classics Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2 from PS5 and PS4 in Major PS Plus Overhaul

by Natalie May 23,2025

Next month, PlayStation Plus subscribers will see 22 games removed from the service's library, including high-profile titles like Grand Theft Auto 5, Payday 2: Crimewave Edition, and the last playable versions of Sony's own Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2.

PlayStation Plus is a comprehensive online gaming service for PlayStation users, offering free monthly games, limited-time trials, online multiplayer access, and exclusive member discounts. It also provides a catalog of hundreds of current and classic games available to Extra and Premium members.

As reported by Push Square, the removal of these 22 games on May 20 includes two significant first-party Sony PS3 titles, both of which will no longer be accessible through the PS Plus Premium library.

The removal of Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2 is particularly notable because these titles are no longer available for purchase on the PS Store. This makes the PS Plus Premium streaming service the final avenue for playing these games, unless one possesses both the games and a functional PS3. Both titles are being delisted less than a year after their addition to the library at the end of 2024.

The Resistance series, developed by Insomniac Games, offers alternate history first-person shooters. Following the success of the Ratchet and Clank series, Insomniac released three Resistance games for the PS3 before shifting focus to other projects such as Marvel’s Spider-Man and new Ratchet and Clank titles.

Although it's rare for Sony to remove its first-party games from PS Plus, there are precedents, such as the unexpected removal of both Horizon gamesHorizon Zero Dawn and Horizon: Forbidden West — in August 2024. However, unlike the Horizon titles, which remained purchasable, Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2 will become inaccessible on modern consoles.

Interestingly, Resistance 3 and Resistance: Retribution will continue to be available on the service. Additionally, the more recent first-party PS4 title InFamous: Second Son is also set to leave PS Plus.

The Resistance series has been inactive for some time. In February, Insomniac's founder and outgoing president Ted Price disclosed efforts to develop Resistance 4, which unfortunately did not materialize. Like Guerrilla's Killzone series, Resistance has been overshadowed by other projects.
