Sony's Hit Game Helldivers 2 Gets the Big-Screen Treatment

At CES 2025, Sony unveiled exciting news for gamers: a film adaptation of their hugely popular game, Helldivers 2. The movie is a collaborative effort between PlayStation Productions and Sony Pictures.

Asad Qizilbash, head of PlayStation Productions, made the announcement, stating, "We're thrilled to confirm that we've commenced development on a film based on the incredibly successful Helldivers 2." While specifics remain under wraps, fans can anticipate spectacular space battles brought to life on the silver screen.

Developed by Arrowhead Studios, Helldivers 2 is a captivating shooter, drawing inspiration from the classic Star Troopers franchise. The game achieved remarkable success, becoming PlayStation Studios' fastest-selling title, boasting 12 million copies sold within its first 12 weeks. Its popularity surged further with the Illuminate update, reintroducing a beloved enemy faction from the original Helldivers game.

Adding to the cinematic excitement, a Horizon Zero Dawn movie is also in the works. This project will be a joint venture between PlayStation Studios and Columbia Pictures, the same studio behind the successful 2022 Uncharted adaptation.

Qizilbash offered an initial glimpse into the Horizon Zero Dawn film: "We're in the early stages of production for the Horizon Zero Dawn movie, but we can already assure viewers: this world and its inhabitants will receive their first-ever cinematic portrayal."
