Skateboarding Returns: Console Playtesting for the Highly Anticipated "skate." Begins
Exciting news for console gamers! The long-awaited "skate." – a new installment in the beloved Skate franchise – is now available for playtesting on Xbox and PlayStation consoles. While PC players have been enjoying early access since mid-2022, this marks the first opportunity for console players to experience a new Skate game in over 15 years.
The last mainline entry, Skate 3, launched in 2010. Despite a dedicated fanbase, the series went dormant as EA focused on other genres. However, persistent fan demand, fueled by the ubiquitous #Skate4 hashtag, finally led to the creation of a dedicated development team and the announcement of "skate."
Initially slated for early access in 2025, "skate." is now undergoing console testing, a positive sign for a timely release. The news, shared via the official "skate." Twitter account, invites Xbox and PlayStation users to participate in the playtest via the "skate." Insider program (registration required). A recent video from the development team confirmed more Black hairstyle options and playfully addressed the "Fall 2024" playtest announcement.
"skate." is confirmed as a free-to-play, live-service game set in the fictional city of San Vansterdam, a work-in-progress inspired by various real-world and in-game locations. While a map leak surfaced in 2023, significant changes are likely. Fans can either join the playtest or patiently await the wider release.
Other Skateboarding Options in the Interim
While the official early access launch is scheduled for 2025 (subject to potential delays), several other skateboarding games are available to satisfy the craving until "skate." arrives.
