Faithfully following the narrative of the original 2013 PS3 game and its Left Behind expansion, the first season expands on the source material with additional world-building. Showrunners Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann (a key figure in the game's development) penned the scripts.

Pedro Pascal portrays Joel Miller, with Bella Ramsey as Ellie. Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson, the game's original Joel and Ellie, also appear.
