Rumor: Rocksteady Studios is developing a new Batman game

by Evelyn Feb 22,2025

Reputable gaming journalist Jason Schreier reports that the celebrated Rocksteady Studios is developing a new, single-player Batman game.

Specifics are limited; Schreier hasn't confirmed if it's a prequel, a sequel to the Arkham series, or a completely separate storyline. However, a source suggests Rocksteady is creating a Batman Beyond title, placing players in a futuristic Gotham City. The goal? A full trilogy. Release is anticipated on next-generation consoles.

The Arkham series was lauded for its stunning graphics, and a futuristic Gotham could be Rocksteady's most visually impressive creation yet. The Batman Beyond setting also addresses a significant challenge: the voice of Batman. Following the passing of Kevin Conroy in 2022, the studio might focus on Terry McGinnis or Damian Wayne – a similar approach Warner Bros. Montreal considered for their canceled Arkham Knight sequel.

Rocksteady's previous endeavor, an online shooter, underperformed, leading to the cancellation of post-launch content within a year. A rushed animated conclusion retconned controversial plot points, revealing key characters were actually clones.

Rocksteady is now returning to its strengths, creating a new solo Batman experience. However, sources suggest the game is still several years from release.
