Where to Preorder the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 Graphics Cards

by Alexis Apr 04,2025

The wait is finally over. The first wave of Nvidia GeForce RTX 50-series graphics cards is available for preorder, starting at 6am PT on January 30. The launch kicks off with the two highest-end GPUs: the RTX 5090 and RTX 5080. Following closely, the mid-range RTX 5070 and 5070 Ti cards will hit the market later in February.

Be prepared, as launch-day stocks of these GPUs are likely to be sold out within hours, if not minutes. Retailers have already cautioned about potential shortages, and recent Nvidia GPU launches have been plagued by bots snatching up large quantities for resale at inflated prices. If you're ready to buy and fortunate enough to find one in stock, don't hesitate. Alternatively, consider prebuilt PCs equipped with the RTX 5090, which might remain in stock longer, albeit at a higher price.

How much will the new Nvidia RTX 50-series GPU cost?

Although only the RTX 5090 and 5080 will launch in January, Nvidia has revealed pricing for all four known models:

  • RTX 5090 - $1,999
  • RTX 5080 - $999
  • RTX 5070 Ti - $749
  • RTX 5070 - $549

Where should I preorder a RTX 5090 or 5080 GPU?

The retailers listed above have various RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 graphics cards available for sale on their sites. However, it's impossible to know exactly how many units each retailer has in stock. To maximize your chances of securing one of these RTX 50-series cards on launch day, it's advisable to check each retailer and purchase the first card that allows you to complete the checkout process. With potentially thousands of others clicking the same links, even if you see a GPU in stock, you might not be able to purchase it. Here's a breakdown of the benefits of checking different retailers:

Despite its power, the RTX 5090 FE boasts a slim 2-slot cooling solution that's smaller than the 4090.

Best Buy

Based on past Nvidia GPU launches, Best Buy is likely one of your best chances to purchase an RTX 5090 or RTX 5080 online, especially the Founder's Edition. Currently, only FE and Gigabyte graphics cards are listed, but more from Asus, MSI, and Zotac are expected to be added. Best Buy's inventory availability varies by region; if you live in an area with lower demand, your chances of securing a GPU here are higher. Additionally, Best Buy GPU preorders typically ship out or become available for in-store pickup quickly, meaning you could have your card in hand within days.

Newegg

Newegg should be a priority due to its wide selection of AIB 5090 and 5080 graphics cards from third-party manufacturers. Currently, 43 different models are listed, including every model from Asus, MSI, Gigabyte, and Zotac, though stock is not guaranteed. As an authorized reseller, buying directly from Newegg ensures you receive the full manufacturer's warranty. Even if standalone cards are sold out, Newegg offers bundle kits with the 5080 and 5090, which include components like motherboards, CPUs, RAM, or power supplies. These bundles sell out slower than standalone cards, which could be advantageous if you're building a PC.

Nvidia Store

The Nvidia Store might seem like the obvious choice, but the Founder's Edition, being the most sought-after version, is rarely in stock. However, loyal Nvidia customers might have a chance. For instance, with the RTX 40-series, Nvidia sent special invites to those who had registered previous GPUs or signed up for notifications through GeForce Experience or the Nvidia app. This could happen again this year.

Amazon

Amazon is a one-stop shop, but finding these GPUs can be challenging. There's no general page listing all available video cards, and search results are often filled with overpriced listings from marketplace vendors or scams. To simplify your search, specific GPU models will be added when available, but always ensure you're buying from Amazon directly, not from third-party sellers.

Adorama

Adorama lists AIB RTX 5080 and 5090 GPUs for preorder, along with pre-built gaming PCs. However, their preorder queue can be slower than other vendors, with some customers waiting months for their GPU to ship. Even after securing a preorder, it's wise to keep an eye on other retailers for faster delivery options. Adorama is a legitimate online retailer with a physical store in NYC and is an authorized Nvidia reseller.

B&H Photo

B&H Photo currently lists 17 RTX 5090 GPUs and 21 RTX 5080 GPUs. Similar to Adorama, preorders might take a while to ship, so it's recommended to continue checking other retailers for quicker delivery. B&H Photo, like Adorama, started as a camera and print retailer and has expanded into a large ecommerce platform, also serving as an authorized Nvidia reseller.

Micro Center (In-Store)

If you live near a Micro Center, it's your best chance to get an RTX 5090 or 5080 on launch day. Micro Center typically reserves GPU sales for in-store customers. If you're local, arrive as early as possible; some enthusiasts have already started camping out in the January cold.

We reviewed the RTX 5090 FE and 5080 FE GPUs

The Nvidia 50 series GPUs were officially announced at CES 2025, with a focus on enhanced AI features over traditional raster performance. DLSS 4 technology is said to quadruple frame rates with minimal visual compromise. While these new GPUs offer a modest performance boost, opinions vary on their value for PC gamers compared to the RTX 40 series.

In our Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 FE review, Jackie Thomas noted, "The Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 has officially taken the performance crown from the RTX 4090, but with less force than previous generations. In traditional non-AI gaming, the RTX 5090 provides one of the smallest generational uplifts in recent memory. However, in games that support it, DLSS 4 really does deliver huge performance gains – you just have to make your peace with the fact that 75% of the frames are generated with AI."

Play

In our Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 FE review, Jackie offered a similar sentiment. "If you already have a high-end graphics card from the last couple of years, the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 doesn’t make a lot of sense – it just doesn’t have much of a performance lead over the RTX 4080, though the extra frames from DLSS 4 Multi-Frame Generation do make things look better in games that support it. However, for gamers with an older graphics card who want a significant performance boost, the RTX 5080 absolutely provides – doubly so if you’re comfortable with Nvidia’s AI goodies."
