After the Nintendo Switch 2 announcement, the collaboration between Nintendo and Xbox is set to thrive. Phil Spencer, Microsoft's gaming leader, recently emphasized his commitment to supporting the Switch platform, enabling Xbox to connect with audiences beyond its own ecosystem.
In a discussion with Variety, Spencer was questioned about plans for specific projects on the Nintendo Switch 2. He affirmed that Xbox’s support for the original Switch will extend to its successor.
"Nintendo is an exceptional partner. This collaboration allows us to engage with players who don’t use PCs or Xbox," Spencer stated. "It helps us expand our community of fans who value our franchises, which is vital for continued investment in our games.
"I strongly believe in Nintendo’s importance to the gaming industry, and we’ll keep supporting them," Spencer added. "Their backing for our franchises is a key part of our future strategy."
Spencer has consistently championed the Nintendo Switch 2, previously praising Nintendo’s innovation during the console’s initial teaser. At that time, he also confirmed Xbox’s strategy to release more games across multiple platforms, including PlayStation, Steam, and Nintendo systems.
When Variety asked if the Switch 2 reveal prompted Spencer to share Xbox’s upcoming console plans, he remained unfazed.
"No. Our focus in this industry should be on nurturing our communities and the players we serve," Spencer explained. "I’m inspired by the creativity of other developers and platform holders, but I’m confident in our own roadmap."
Spencer underscored Xbox’s commitment to delivering games across various platforms, including cloud, PC, and consoles. Titles like Pentiment and Obsidian’s Grounded have already launched on Nintendo systems, and anticipation is high for Xbox’s future offerings on the Switch 2 once it releases.
The Nintendo Switch 2 is slated for an official launch on June 5, 2025. Pre-orders are not yet available, but check our Switch 2 pre-order hub page for the latest updates.
