Rumors about a Persona 4 remake are gaining credibility, as an original cast member says they weren't asked to return for the unannounced project.
Yuri Lowenthal, the voice behind Yosuke Hanamura in Persona 4 and several spin-offs, posted on BlueSky earlier today confirming he won't reprise his role in the rumored Persona 4 remake.
"For everyone asking, no, I won't be returning as Yosuke for the Persona 4 remake," Lowenthal stated. "I asked—maybe even begged—but they didn't want me back."
"They" likely refers to Atlus, though the company has yet to officially confirm the remake's development. We’ve contacted Sega/Atlus for comment.
SAG-AFTRA video game actors remain on strike, partly over AI protections. While Lowenthal is a SAG-AFTRA member, it's unclear whether this influenced the casting decision. The union continues to advocate for actor safeguards, noting in a March statement that negotiations with industry representatives remain "frustratingly far apart."
Despite the lack of official confirmation, speculation about a Persona 4 remake has circulated for some time. Earlier this year, a domain discovery fueled hopes for a P4 remake, following earlier hints from leakers.
A former voice actor's confirmation certainly isn't the usual way such news breaks. After the success of Persona 3 Reload, a Persona 4 remake would be a logical next step.
As for timing, Persona 3 Reload was announced during the summer 2023 Xbox Game Showcase. Add this one to your watch list for the upcoming season of game news and trailers.
In other Persona updates, the mobile and PC spin-off Persona 5: The Phantom X is set to launch on June 26, 2025, for fans seeking more Persona 5 content.
