People Can Fly, the Polish studio renowned for Outriders and Gears of War Judgment, has announced further layoffs following the cancellation of two titles: Project Gemini and Project Bifrost.
"Today we made a very difficult decision to suspend development on Project Gemini and Project Bifrost — relevant updates have been shared with the market," CEO Sebastian Wojciechowski stated in an official statement.
"The decision to halt the Gemini project stems from the Publisher's failure to provide a draft of the subsequent content rider for the Publishing Agreement, outlining terms and conditions for future milestones. Additionally, there has been insufficient communication regarding the Publisher’s intent to either continue or terminate Project Gemini."Project Bifrost was suspended due to these factors combined with an analysis of our cash flow, which indicated insufficient prospects for securing the organizational resources and funding required to complete and release this project."
The CEO added: "As a result, we must significantly regroup as a studio and reduce team sizes, which is particularly difficult. We express our deepest regret and sadness over how these events have unfolded, along with sincere gratitude for everyone’s contributions thus far."
While Wojciechowski's statement does not explicitly name the publishing partners involved in the development halt, People Can Fly's own website confirms that Gemini was partnered with Square Enix, while Bifrost was a self-published title. Square Enix has yet to comment on the matter.
The company previously "scaled down" operations when it laid off 120 employees at the end of last year. It is currently collaborating with Krafton and Sony on Project Echo and Delta, respectively, as well as working with Microsoft on Gears of War: E-Day.
People Can Fly's latest release is Bullestorm VR, an enhanced version of the classic shooter available for Meta Quest and PSVR 2.
