Oscar Isaac's Star Wars Celebration 2025 Appearance Fuels Poe Dameron Return Speculation

Sequel Trilogy star Oscar Isaac's confirmed appearance at Star Wars Celebration 2025 in Tokyo (April 18-20) has ignited fervent speculation about a potential return of his character, Poe Dameron. The announcement, made via the official Star Wars Celebration Instagram, follows Daisy Ridley's 2023 appearance where she announced her involvement in a new Star Wars film. This parallel has fans eagerly anticipating similar news from Isaac.

Isaac's relationship with the Star Wars franchise has been complex. Following the conclusion of the Sequel Trilogy in 2019 with The Rise of Skywalker, his public stance on returning has evolved. Initially expressing reluctance, citing needing "another house or something" as a prerequisite (2020), he later shifted to a more neutral position, telling Variety in 2022 that he was "open to anything."

His past criticisms of Disney, including their rejection of his proposed romance between Poe and Finn (John Boyega's character), have also added fuel to the speculation fire. Boyega, who also voiced past frustrations with Disney, has similarly hinted at openness to future roles.

The possibility of a reunion of the Sequel Trilogy's main trio—Rey, Finn, and Poe—in the upcoming Rey film is now a major talking point. This film, set approximately 15 years after The Rise of Skywalker, centers on Rey's efforts to rebuild the Jedi Order. Ridley has already publicly expressed her desire for Boyega's return, making Poe's inclusion a logical next step.

However, definitive answers may be some time coming. The anticipated Rey film, directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, has faced multiple delays, with its earliest potential release date now set for December 17, 2027. This delay, mirroring the broader pattern of postponements within the Star Wars film slate, adds to the uncertainty surrounding the future of these characters. While Star Wars Celebration 2025 might offer some clues, fans will likely face a prolonged wait for concrete confirmation.
