Nintendo's highly anticipated Switch successor is finally here! This article breaks down everything revealed in Nintendo's initial teaser trailer for the Nintendo Switch 2.
Nintendo Switch 2: Unveiled!
Nintendo Switch 2 Direct: April 2nd, 2025
After months of speculation, Nintendo has officially announced the Nintendo Switch 2. A brief teaser trailer, released January 16th, showcased a refined design while retaining the hybrid functionality of its predecessor.
The teaser highlighted a larger display, a wider, more stable kickstand, and magnetically attaching Joy-Cons—a significant departure from the original Switch's rail system. An additional USB-C port on the console itself was also confirmed.
Backward compatibility is a key feature. Nintendo confirmed that both physical and digital Nintendo Switch games will be playable, although some titles may have limited or no support. Specific details regarding incompatible games will be released later on the Nintendo website. Nintendo Switch Online subscriptions will also carry over.
While no exclusive titles have been officially announced, the trailer hinted at a new Mario Kart installment (potentially Mario Kart 9) and reports suggest Gotham Knights may be in the works. A dedicated Nintendo Direct on April 2nd, 2025, promises further details on games and other features.
