Nintendo Will Sell Loads of Switch 2 Consoles at Launch ‘Regardless of Price,’ Analysts Predict, June Release Date Once Again Mentioned

by Michael Mar 26,2025

The buzz surrounding the price of the Nintendo Switch 2 has become a focal point within the gaming community. Industry analysts have shared with IGN their anticipation of a $400 launch price for Nintendo's next-generation console, a figure that aligns with a recent Bloomberg report that cites Japan-focused analysts. This proposed price marks a notable increase from the original Nintendo Switch's debut cost, and another analyst hinted to Bloomberg that Nintendo might even consider a higher price point, potentially reaching up to $499. Despite the potential for a higher price tag, analysts are confident that the Switch 2 will experience an unprecedented launch, potentially becoming the biggest console launch in history, regardless of the price.

"They will sell boatloads of Switch 2 in the first months in particular, almost regardless of the price," Tokyo analyst Serkan Toto confidently stated to Bloomberg.

The anticipated success of the Switch 2's launch can be attributed to the high demand for its initial lineup of games. Toto predicts that the first year will see the release of a new Mario Kart, as hinted by Nintendo during the Switch 2's reveal, a new 3D Mario game, along with the already announced Pokémon Legends: Z-A and Metroid Prime 4. Additionally, Toto expects robust third-party support, including a potential Call of Duty title from Activision.

There's also a substantial list of rumored third-party titles set to grace the console. In an interview with IGN, the developer of Civilization 7, Firaxis, expressed intrigue at the Switch 2's rumored Joy-Con mouse mode. French video game and accessories maker Nacon, known for titles like Greedfall 2, Test Drive Unlimited, and RoboCop: Rogue City, has confirmed they have games ready for the Switch 2. The much-anticipated Hollow Knight: Silksong is also rumored to be coming to the platform. Last month, EA indicated that Madden, FC, and The Sims would be well-suited for the Switch 2.

It's important to note that Activision has not yet officially announced its plans for the Switch 2, and Nintendo has remained silent on the Bloomberg report.

As for the release date, June 2025 is increasingly mentioned across online forums and within gaming media circles. Robin Zhu, a Japan-based analyst from Sanford C. Bernstein, told Bloomberg that the Switch 2 is expected to launch in June with an initial stock of 6-8 million units. Should this stock sell out quickly, the Switch 2 could surpass the sales records of its predecessor and both the PlayStation 4 and 5.

Concerns have been raised about the impact of former U.S. President Donald Trump's tariff war on the price of the Nintendo Switch 2. The Trump administration introduced tariffs on goods from China, Canada, and Mexico, leading analysts to warn that these could affect the price and availability of video games, consoles, and other tech products. However, Bloomberg pointed out that the Switch 2 will be assembled in both Vietnam, a major U.S. trading partner, and China, which one analyst suggested could mitigate risks for Nintendo due to its diversified manufacturing strategy.

Despite the wealth of information available, there's still much we don't know about the Switch 2. Nintendo has scheduled a Direct for April 2, where they plan to unveil more details about the console.

The Nintendo Switch 2 was unveiled earlier in January with a brief trailer that confirmed its backwards compatibility features and the addition of a second USB-C port. However, many details, such as the full game lineup and the function of the mysterious new Joy-Con button, were not disclosed. The Joy-Con mouse mode theory has gained significant attention.

Last month, a Nintendo patent suggested that the Switch 2's Joy-Con controllers could be attached upside down. This indicates that the Switch 2 will utilize gyro mechanics similar to those in smartphones without screen lock. Unlike the original Switch, which used rails to secure the Joy-Cons, the new controllers will use magnets, allowing them to be attached on either side. While this change may not significantly impact the hardware, it will give players the flexibility to position certain buttons and the headphone port as they see fit. If implemented, this flipping feature could lead to innovative gameplay mechanics.
