Exciting News for Ninja Gaiden Fans: A Double Dose of Action!
Team Ninja has declared 2025 "The Year of the Ninja," unveiling not one, but two highly anticipated titles during the Xbox Developer Direct 2025: Ninja Gaiden 4 and a remastered Ninja Gaiden 2 Black. This surprise announcement marks a significant return for the iconic franchise after a long hiatus.
Ninja Gaiden 4: A New Era Begins
Developed by the collaborative forces of Team Ninja and PlatinumGames, Ninja Gaiden 4 is a direct sequel to Ninja Gaiden 3, continuing the series' legacy of challenging yet incredibly rewarding gameplay. The game introduces a fresh protagonist, Yakumo, a young ninja from the rival Raven clan, aiming to achieve Master Ninja status.
PlatinumGames' Art Director, Tomoko Nishii, describes Yakumo as a character designed to stand alongside Ryu Hayabusa, the epitome of a ninja. While Yakumo takes center stage, longtime fans can rest assured that Ryu Hayabusa remains a crucial part of the narrative, serving as a formidable opponent and benchmark for Yakumo's growth. Ryu will also be playable.
Revamped Combat and a New Style
Ninja Gaiden 4 maintains the series' signature brutal and fast-paced combat, adding a new fighting style for Yakumo: the Bloodbind Ninjutsu Nue Style, alongside the Raven Style. Team Ninja's Director, Masazaku Hirayama, assures fans that while distinct from Ryu's approach, both styles will feel authentic to the Ninja Gaiden experience. The game blends Team Ninja's expertise with PlatinumGames' signature speed and dynamic action. Currently 70-80% complete, the game is in its final polishing stages.
Release Date and Availability
Ninja Gaiden 4 is slated for release in Fall 2025 on Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PlayStation 5, launching day one on Xbox Game Pass.
Ninja Gaiden 2 Black: A Remastered Classic
In addition to the new installment, a remake of the original Ninja Gaiden 2 (Xbox 360, 2008), titled Ninja Gaiden 2 Black, is available now on Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PlayStation 5, also included with Xbox Game Pass. This updated version features additional playable characters from Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2, offering a satisfying experience for both veterans and newcomers. This serves as a delightful treat while fans eagerly await Ninja Gaiden 4.
