NieR: Automata - How To Get The Type-40 Sword

In NieR:Automata, short swords boast rapid attack speeds and narrow hitboxes, making them versatile choices against diverse enemies. While weapon upgrades enhance their longevity, numerous powerful weapons, such as the Type-40 sword, are obtainable and upgradable for increased character strength. However, the Type-40 sword is easily missed; here’s how to acquire it.

Obtaining the Type-40 Sword

The Type-40 sword is the reward for completing the side quest "Find A Present," the culmination of a questline involving Operator 6O. Unlocking this requires completing two preceding quests. Here's the complete process, including chapter selection points:

  1. After defeating Adam and Eve in Chapter 5, you'll receive a call from Operator 6O. This initiates the "Investigating Communications" quest—complete it immediately as it's easily missed.
  2. Proceed through Chapter 6 (Forest Castle events) and into Chapter 7.
  3. After conversing with Pascal about A2, explore the city ruins to trigger another call from Operator 6O, directing you to an access point to begin "Terminal Repairs."
  4. Continuing Chapter 7, on your return to the Resistance Camp, you'll receive a final call from Operator 6O regarding flowers, followed by a new inbox message.
  5. Interact with this message to initiate "Find a Present."
  6. Upon completing "Find a Present," the Type-40 sword will be delivered to your inbox.

At level 1, the Type-40 sword executes a 5-hit light attack combo and a 3-hit heavy attack combo. Upgrading it to level 4 increases the light attack combo to 7 hits and enhances its enemy-stunning capabilities. Titanium Alloy is required for these upgrades.

Additional Rewards for "Find a Present"

Completing "Find a Present" also yields:

  • A130: Bomb
  • Amber x 4
  • 5,000 G
  • 800 EXP
