When MultiVersus launched in 2022, it achieved remarkable success, reaching a peak of 153,000 concurrent players on Steam. However, the game's online presence plummeted by 99% shortly thereafter, prompting Warner Bros. Games to shut down the project in June 2023, labeling it as an "open beta test." Despite returning with updates in May 2024, the game has struggled to recapture its initial popularity.

The fifth season of MultiVersus is slated to begin in early February, and it could represent the developers' final opportunity to rekindle player interest.
