Summary

  • According to a new job listing from Insomniac, Marvel's Spider-Man 3 might be in the early stages of production.
  • Rumors of a half-sequel to Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 with Venom as the main playable character have also persisted, with some believing that the game will be released this year.
  • The game mentioned in the job listing could also be a new Ratchet and Clank title, though Insomniac is currently focusing on its Marvel games.

A new job listing at Insomniac suggests that Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 is already in the early production stages. All of Insomniac’s previous Spider-Man games have been critically and commercially successful, and 2023’s Spider-Man 2 left plenty of loose plot threads for a new sequel to pick up. Sure enough, Insomniac has confirmed that Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 is in development, but not much has been revealed since.

There have been plenty of rumors and speculation about Marvel’s Spider-Man 3, especially after it was named in a list of upcoming Insomniac games that was unearthed in a massive data breach a few months after Spider-Man 2 launched on the PS5. Other leaks hint at certain characters making their Insomniac universe debuts in Marvel’s Spider-Man 3, but it is worth pointing out that the game is likely years from release at this point.

However, Insomniac might already be hard at work on Marvel’s Spider-Man 3, at least according to a newly posted job listing for a Senior UX Researcher at the storied PlayStation developer. According to the listing, this senior researcher would be responsible for “leading the research process for a AAA title,” and will be required to work at Insomniac Games’ Burbank UX Lab over a 3-month period to help with a project that is already in early production.

Spider-Man 3 Might Already Be In Early Production

Of the Insomniac-developed games listed in past leaks, Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 seems to be the one that fits this description best. After all, Marvel’s Wolverine has reportedly already been in development for several years now, with insiders saying that production is going smoothly despite a few setbacks. Meanwhile, there have been rumors of a half-sequel to Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 with Venom as the main playable character, which could be released sometime this year according to the Insomniac data breach of 2023. Assuming these leaks are true, it is unlikely that the Venom game would be in early development at this point.

This leaves either Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 or a new Ratchet and Clank game that is supposedly being planned for 2029 as the game mentioned in the new Insomniac job listing. Given that Insomniac seems to be focusing on its growing Marvel universe for the time being, Spider-Man 3 seems to be the best bet, although it should be noted that this is all speculation at this point. In any case, it looks like Insomniac does have a new game in early production, which in itself is exciting news for PlayStation fans.
