Marvel Snap's Second Anniversary Brings Powerful New Doctor Doom Variant: Top Deck Strategies

Marvel Snap continues to evolve, introducing exciting new card variants. This time, it's Doctor Doom's turn with the arrival of his 2099 version. Let's dive into the best Doom 2099 decks currently dominating the meta.

Understanding Doom 2099's Mechanics

Doom 2099 is a 4-cost, 2-power card with a unique ability: "After each turn, add a DoomBot 2099 to a random location if you played (exactly) 1 card." DoomBot 2099 (also 4-cost, 2-power) boasts the ongoing effect: "Ongoing: Your other DoomBots and Doom have +1 Power." Crucially, this buff applies to both DoomBot 2099s and regular Doctor Doom cards.

Playing one card per turn maximizes Doom 2099's potential. An early Doom 2099 can unleash three DoomBot 2099s, significantly boosting your power. Adding Doctor Doom on the final turn further amplifies this effect. Strategically, Doom 2099 can effectively function as a 17-power card (or even more with early plays or Magik).

However, Doom 2099 isn't without weaknesses. The random placement of DoomBot 2099s can be detrimental, potentially handing your opponent a location. Furthermore, the recently buffed Enchantress completely negates the DoomBot 2099 power boost.

Top-Tier Doom 2099 Decks (Day One)

Doom 2099's one-card-per-turn requirement makes Spectrum Ongoing decks highly viable. Here are two examples:

Deck 1: Budget-Friendly Spectrum Focus

  • Ant-Man
  • Goose
  • Psylocke
  • Captain America
  • Cosmo
  • Electro
  • Doom 2099
  • Wong
  • Klaw
  • Doctor Doom
  • Spectrum
  • Onslaught

This deck is remarkably affordable, with only Doom 2099 being a Series 5 card. The strategy involves getting Doom 2099 out early using Psylocke or Electro, followed by powerful card combinations like Wong, Klaw, and Doctor Doom, or leveraging Electro to enhance Onslaught and Spectrum's effects. Cosmo's protection against Enchantress is crucial.

Deck 2: Patriot-Style Synergy

  • Ant-Man
  • Zabu
  • Dazzler
  • Mister Sinister
  • Patriot
  • Brood
  • Doom 2099
  • Super Skrull
  • Iron Lad
  • Blue Marvel
  • Doctor Doom
  • Spectrum

Another budget-friendly option (only Doom 2099 is Series 5), this deck utilizes a Patriot strategy. Early game plays like Mister Sinister and Brood set the stage for Doom 2099, followed by Blue Marvel and Doctor Doom or Spectrum. Zabu helps discount 4-cost cards for early game flexibility. This deck is more vulnerable to Enchantress but includes Super Skrull as a counter to other Doom 2099 decks. Note that you can strategically skip DoomBot 2099 spawns to optimize late-game plays.

Is Doom 2099 Worth the Investment?

While Daken and Miek (released alongside Doom 2099) are relatively weak, Doom 2099 himself is a valuable addition. His power and deck-building affordability make him a meta-defining card. Use Collector's Tokens if you have them; he's a must-have this month, likely to become a legendary card in Marvel Snap history unless nerfed.

These are some of the best Doom 2099 decks currently available in Marvel Snap. Get ready to dominate the battlefield!
