Marvel Rivals Reverses Controversial Mid-Season Rank Reset Decision
Following significant player backlash, Marvel Rivals has reversed its decision to implement mid-season rank resets. The developer announced the change in Dev Talk 11, a swift response to the negative reception of Dev Talk 10, which detailed the planned four-division rank drop halfway through the season.
Players criticized the proposed system for its demotivating effect on those striving for higher ranks, especially given the planned 45-day reset cycle. In a significant about-face, Marvel Rivals confirmed that no mid-season rank reset will occur. Players will retain their current ranks and scores from the first half of the season. However, the end-of-season reset, involving a six-division drop, remains in place.
Other Planned Updates Remain On Track
Despite the rank reset reversal, other updates are proceeding as scheduled. The addition of Human Torch and The Thing, bringing the total roster to 39 heroes, is still on track. This aligns with NetEase Games' previous commitment to releasing two new characters per three-month season. Rewards for players reaching Gold rank and above also remain unchanged, with a free Invisible Woman costume for Gold rank and higher, and Crests of Honor for Grandmaster and above. Additional end-of-season rewards will be given to those reaching Gold rank.
While balance adjustments were previously announced for this mid-season update, specifics remain undisclosed.
Community Feedback Drives Decision
Marvel Rivals highlighted its responsiveness to community feedback, emphasizing the speed at which it addressed player concerns. The developer underscored its commitment to player input, stating that the community is crucial to the game's development and success.
The mid-season update is scheduled for release on February 21, 2025. Marvel Rivals is currently available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
