Marvel Debunks AI Use in 'Fantastic Four' Poster Creation

by Isabella Feb 19,2025

Marvel denies AI involvement in the creation of its "Fantastic Four: First Steps" posters, despite fan speculation. The controversy stems from a poster depicting a man seemingly with only four fingers.

The marketing campaign for "Fantastic Four: First Steps" launched this week, including a trailer teaser and several posters shared on social media. One poster, however, sparked debate when viewers noticed a potential finger discrepancy on a man holding a large Fantastic Four flag.

Further fueling the speculation, fans pointed out other potential AI-generated elements, such as duplicated faces, inconsistent gaze direction, and oddly proportioned limbs.

A Disney/Marvel spokesperson, however, refuted the AI claims to IGN. The four-fingered man's missing digit has been attributed to several possibilities: it might be hidden behind the flagpole, a result of poor Photoshopping, or simply a mistake. Similarly, repeated faces could be a result of common background actor copy-pasting techniques, rather than AI generation.

The discussion surrounding AI use in this poster highlights the growing awareness and concerns about the technology's role in film marketing.
