Marvel's upcoming Vision Quest series is reportedly resurrecting a villain from the very first MCU film, Iron Man.
Deadline reports that Faran Tahir will reprise his role as Raza Hamidmi al-Wazar, the Afghan terrorist leader who held Tony Stark captive in the opening scenes of the 2008 film. Al-Wazar's betrayal by Obadiah Stane marked his last appearance until now, nearly two decades later. This echoes the surprise return of Samuel Sterns from The Incredible Hulk in Captain America: Brave New World.
While initially depicted as a generic terrorist leader, al-Wazar's backstory was significantly enriched in Phase 4. His group was subtly revealed to be connected to the Ten Rings, a connection significantly expanded upon in 2021's Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. This suggests a possible link between Vision Quest, which stars Paul Bettany as White Vision, and the ongoing Ten Rings storyline.
The series, currently without a release date, might explore lesser-known or forgotten MCU elements, similar to Deadpool & Wolverine's approach to the former Fox Marvel universe. The return of James Spader as Ultron, also reported, adds another layer of intrigue to this mysterious project. Details remain scarce, but the inclusion of al-Wazar promises a fascinating exploration of MCU history.
