During today's Mario Kart World Direct, we were treated to an in-depth look at the game's exciting new Free Roam mode. This mode promises to be highly engaging, especially in multiplayer, as you explore the expansive world of Mario Kart World.
Although we had the opportunity to go hands-on with Mario Kart World last week, it wasn't until today that we got a comprehensive overview of Free Roam mode. This new feature allows players to freely navigate the game's vast, Forza Horizon-inspired world map. Unlike previous Mario Kart games, which confined players to separate race tracks accessible only during races, Mario Kart World integrates these tracks into an open-world setting. This means you can seamlessly drive from one track to another in specific game modes and enjoy the freedom to explore the areas in between. In Free Roam mode, when you're not competing in races, you can embark on mini-adventures. The world is dotted with hidden collectibles such as coins and ? panels, though the exact benefits of collecting these items are yet to be revealed. Additionally, you'll encounter P-Switches that trigger short challenges, like collecting blue coins, adding an extra layer of fun to your exploration.
One of the standout features of Free Roam mode is the ability to activate Photo Mode at any time. This allows you to capture memorable moments with your racers in various poses and from different angles. Free Roam isn't limited to solo play; it's designed to be a social experience. You can join friends to drive around, take photos, tackle challenges, or simply hang out. The mode supports up to four players on a single system via split-screen, or up to eight players through local wireless play, with two players per system.
