Lionsgate's upcoming Monopoly movie has found its writers in John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, the creative duo behind the critically acclaimed Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. Daley and Goldstein will pen the screenplay for this adaptation of Hasbro's iconic board game. The film will be produced by Margot Robbie through her production company, LuckyChap.
Beyond Honor Among Thieves, Daley and Goldstein recently wrote and directed the original film Mayday. Their writing credits also include The Flash and Spider-Man: Homecoming, showcasing their versatility in crafting engaging narratives across diverse genres.
The journey to bring Monopoly to the big screen has been a long one, with various attempts dating back to 2007 when Ridley Scott expressed interest in directing. A 2011 iteration saw Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski attached to write the script, but the project stalled. Further attempts in 2015 with Lionsgate, Hasbro, and writer Andrew Niccol, and in 2019 with Kevin Hart and Tim Story, ultimately failed to materialize.
However, Lionsgate's acquisition of eOne from Hasbro has breathed new life into the project, paving the way for this latest development. This version, with Daley and Goldstein at the helm, promises a fresh take on the classic game, hopefully leading to a successful cinematic adaptation.
