Ever since the announcement of the upcoming DLC for Lies of P, titled Overture, fans have been buzzing with excitement and speculation about the mysteries it might unveil. At the recent Game Developers Conference, IGN uncovered a significant detail: the base game's surprising final cutscene will not be explained in the Overture DLC.
For those yet to experience the end of Lies of P, here's a spoiler-free summary: the game concludes with a cutscene hinting at the future direction of the Lies of P universe. This scene has sparked considerable discussion among fans about its potential implications and whether it would be addressed in the DLC. However, Lies of P director Jiwon Choi clarified that this cutscene is unrelated to the upcoming Overture DLC. He tantalizingly added, “Please stay tuned for additional announcements in the future.”

Neowiz has also announced a full sequel to Lies of P, suggesting that the mysterious cutscene might be connected to this future installment. Details about Lies of P 2 remain scarce, but it's clear that it's in development. Choi remained tight-lipped about the sequel during our conversation, emphasizing the team's commitment to quality amidst development pressures: “What I can certainly tell you is when we share such news or media and assets with you, you'll know for sure that we are ready to present it to you. And that follows very our strict focus on quality [amid] all the pressure that we talked about in the past. So that is the one promise that I can share with you, that when we actually share those contents with you and the news, we will be ready to share that with you.”

The scene in question, which we discussed with Choi, is the "Dorothy scene." As detailed in our previous coverage, the final cutscene features Paracelsus speaking on the phone and mentioning his intent to find "Dorothy," another key figure. The scene then shifts to reveal Dorothy's iconic striped socks and ruby slippers from The Wizard of Oz, hinting at a connection to other public domain fairy tales in future Lies of P content. However, this won't be explored in the Overture DLC.SPOILERS END HERE.
While the Dorothy scene remains a mystery for now, Choi did provide some insights into what fans can expect from the Overture DLC. He encouraged players to replay the base game, suggesting that it contains clues about the upcoming content: “When you play through the base game again, you'll see many hints that we scattered throughout the whole experience,” Choi explained. “A lot of hints and a lot of windows into the world, and you'll be able to actually see that and experience that in expansion…There are many things that I actually wanted to accomplish when we were working on the base game. It didn't get put into the base game, and all of that, at least key elements of that are going to be included in expansion.”Choi also noted that some fans have already begun to unravel Neowiz's hints, as he keeps an eye on online fan theories: "some of them are quite close."
Additional details about the Overture DLC include an estimated playtime of 15-20 hours for experienced players. The DLC will become accessible after reaching a "certain" chapter of the game and can be played until the end. As announced previously, Overture is set as a prequel, with the protagonist transported back in time to Krat just before its fall. Players can look forward to new locations, enemies, bosses, characters, and weapons, though Choi kept the specifics under wraps to maintain the surprise for the release.
