It’s the third consecutive day I’ve reported on a game’s end-of-service. This time, it’s KonoSuba: Fantastic Days Global, which officially shut down today, January 30th. The servers are now offline. So, what’s the story?
How Long Did KonoSuba: Fantastic Days Global Run?
Developed by Sumzap and initially published by Nexon before transitioning to Sesisoft, KonoSuba: Fantastic Days Global enjoyed a respectable run. While the global servers lasted 3.5 years, the Japanese version persevered for a full 5 years. This is a commendable lifespan for an anime-based gacha game, especially considering revenue had been declining for some time.
The developers clearly shifted their focus to the Jujutsu Kaisen gacha game (Jujutsu Kaisen Phantom Parade). Even so, they supported KonoSuba: Fantastic Days Global until the very end, releasing voiced story updates and a final song just three weeks before shutdown.
A farewell livestream in December featured Kazuma’s voice actor, adding a poignant touch to the closing. The Japanese version even went above and beyond by archiving the entire main story on their YouTube channel, allowing players to revisit the antics of Kazuma and his crew anytime. They also provided an offline version preserving the story, voice lines, and character collection.
Unfortunately, no offline version or dedicated YouTube archive is available for the global version. However, fans can still access the Japanese YouTube channel to relive their favorite moments with Kazuma, Aqua, Megumin, and the rest of the cast.
That concludes our coverage of the KonoSuba: Fantastic Days Global shutdown. Stay tuned for our next news piece on Karrablast and Shelmet in Pokémon Go’s February Community Day.
