The popular mobile beat 'em up ARPG, King of Fighters ALLSTAR, is shutting down on October 30th, 2024. Netmarble's announcement, posted on their official forums, confirms that in-app purchases have already been disabled.
This closure comes as a surprise, given the game's six-year run and numerous successful collaborations with other prominent fighting game franchises. The game, based on SNK's King of Fighters series, has enjoyed considerable success.
Netmarble's developer handbook suggests a contributing factor to the shutdown is the depletion of characters available for adaptation from the King of Fighters roster. While likely not the sole reason, this offers some insight into the decision.

The King of Fighters ALLSTAR closure unfortunately continues a trend of long-running mobile live-service games ending this year. This highlights the challenges of maintaining these titles and suggests that even in the thriving mobile gaming market, financial sustainability remains a significant hurdle for some developers.
