The iconic Killzone franchise from Sony has been on a long hiatus, but there's a glimmer of hope for its return. In a recent interview with VideoGamer during the PlayStation: The Concert Tour, Killzone's composer, Joris de Man, expressed his desire to see the series make a comeback. He acknowledged the existing fan petitions and shared his cautious optimism about the franchise's future.
"I know that there have been petitions for it," de Man said. "I think it's [tricky] because, I can't speak for Guerrilla or anything... I don't know if it will ever happen. I hope it will because I think it is quite an iconic franchise, but I also think it kind of has to take into account kind of the sensitivities and the shift in, I guess, what people want because it is quite bleak in some ways."
While the form of Killzone's potential return remains uncertain, de Man suggested that a remastered collection might be more appealing than a completely new game. "I think [a] remastered one would be successful, I don't know if a new game would be as much," he explained. He also hinted that the gaming audience might prefer something more casual and quicker-paced, a contrast to Killzone's slower, heavier gameplay style.
The Killzone series, known for its darker, grittier atmosphere and slower pace compared to fast-paced shooters like Call of Duty, has faced its share of challenges. Killzone 2, for instance, was criticized for its input lag on the PlayStation 3. The last installment, Killzone Shadow Fall, was released over a decade ago, and since then, Sony's Guerrilla Games has shifted its focus to the Horizon series.
Despite this shift, the longing for Killzone's revival persists among some fans. Joris de Man's support adds another voice to the chorus hoping for the franchise's return, even as Guerrilla continues to explore new horizons.
