In Avowed, deciding whether to give Sargamis the Splinter of Eothas is a pivotal choice that significantly impacts the game's outcome. Here's a detailed look at the different scenarios you might encounter based on your decision.
What Happens If You Don’t Give the Splinter of Eothas to Sargamis in Avowed?

Refusing to hand over the Splinter of Eothas to Sargamis leads to a confrontation. Sargamis becomes an optional boss with a formidable health bar, making him one of the more challenging early-game encounters. He summons two spirit creatures that primarily target Kai, allowing you to focus on Sargamis. His combat style includes swift thrusting attacks that cover a lot of ground, but he is susceptible to being frozen, making ice spells a strategic choice.
Upon defeating Sargamis, you earn the Last Light of Day mace, a unique weapon with enchantments that restore 3% of your health upon defeating an enemy and add a 10% bonus fire damage to your attacks.
What Happens If You Give the Splinter of Eothas to Sargamis in Avowed?

If you decide to give the Splinter to Sargamis, you have several paths to choose from:
Persuade Sargamis to Enter the Statue: By convincing him to put himself in the statue, Sargamis dies, and you obtain the Last Light of Day mace.
Offer Yourself to the Statue: This choice splits into two outcomes:
- Stand in the Circle: Following Sargamis's instructions leads to your character's death, but you earn the "Get In The Statue, Envoy" achievement. Reloading the game places you back at the moment before entering the circle.
- Leave the Circle: If you step out of the circle when instructed to stand still, Sargamis attacks you, leading to a battle.
How To Finish Dawntreader Without Killing Sargamis in Avowed

For a non-violent resolution, you can convince Sargamis that his plan won't work. This requires an Intellect stat of 4 or higher. Place the Splinter in the statue before speaking with Sargamis, activate the machine, and then talk to him after it fails. Persuade him that his plan is doomed to fail, and he will abandon it.
Choosing the Court Augur or Arcane Scholar background can help initiate this path, though other backgrounds may offer similar options. Avoid choosing the intellect option about live soul transfer during your conversation with Sargamis. After he leaves, decide whether to let the voice use the statue or destroy it yourself. Then, find Sargamis in his quarters to conclude this segment of the Dawntreader quest, earning more experience than if you had fought him or handed over the Splinter.
