Rey Dau is the first dragon monster you'll encounter in Monster Hunter Wilds. This creature wields the lightning element, rendering it immune to such attacks. However, it's notably vulnerable to water and ice. The optimal target for your attacks is Rey Dau's head, boasting a 4-star weakness. If hitting the head proves challenging, aim for its wings, which have a 3-star weakness.
Avoid attacking the dragon's torso, as it's particularly resilient. While its legs are also well-protected, targeting the tail can be a viable alternative. For status ailments, almost all are effective except for Stun and Paralysis, given Rey Dau's immunity to lightning-based effects.
Use a Flash Pod
A strategic approach to defeating Rey Dau swiftly involves deploying a Flash Pod. This tool temporarily stuns the monster, providing a window to land critical hits. When Rey Dau unleashes its lightning attack, focus on its horn, which becomes a vulnerable target. Engage Focus Mode to spot the glowing red horns for maximum impact.
Wear Element-Resistant Gear
To enhance your survivability, equip gear that bolsters your resistance to elements. The Hope Armor set, with its Divine Blessing skill, not only reduces incoming damage but also offers protection against Lightning and Fire damage—ideal for this fight. Additionally, consuming a meal that boosts elemental resistance can be beneficial. For those struggling with evasion, staying near Rey Dau's legs can minimize the risk of being hit, as the dragon primarily targets areas in front and behind.
Pay Attention to the Environment
As Rey Dau moves across the battlefield, the environment can become your ally. In the open plains, utilize Vine Traps found on lone trees to momentarily stun the monster. Be cautious when Rey Dau retreats to its nest, as it may follow up with a potent lightning attack capable of stunning you. Patience and awareness of your surroundings are crucial to avoiding fatal shocks.

Beyond defeating Rey Dau in combat, capturing this beast in Monster Hunter Wilds offers additional rewards. To initiate a capture, weaken Rey Dau until it's on the brink of death, indicated by a skull icon near its icon on the mini-map. At this point, deploy a trap. Given Rey Dau's immunity to lightning, a Shock Trap won't suffice; instead, use a Pitfall Trap for a successful capture. Follow up swiftly with a Tranquilizer to prevent escape, as you have only a brief window to act.
