F-Zero Climax, a Japan-Exclusive GBA Racing Game, Added to Switch Online + Expansion Pack

Two classic GBA racing games from the F-Zero franchise are speeding onto the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack! Nintendo's announcement confirms the arrival of F-Zero Climax and F-Zero: GP Legend on October 11th, 2024.

This exciting addition brings high-octane futuristic racing to the service. F-Zero: GP Legend, initially released in 2003 in Japan and 2004 internationally, joins the Japan-exclusive F-Zero Climax, which launched in 2004 and has remained region-locked until now. This marks the return of F-Zero Climax after a nineteen-year absence, following the release of the Switch's F-Zero 99 last year.

The F-Zero series, a critical success for Nintendo since its 1990 debut, is renowned for its cutting-edge graphics and intense gameplay. Its influence is undeniable, inspiring other racing franchises like SEGA's Daytona USA. The series' signature blend of high-speed racing, track obstacles, and competitive battles between "F-Zero machines" has captivated players for decades. The iconic Captain Falcon, the series' protagonist, even makes appearances in Super Smash Bros.

Game designer Takaya Imamura has previously attributed the series' long hiatus to the immense popularity of Nintendo's Mario Kart franchise.
