EA to Shut Down The Simpsons: Tapped Out

Have you ever tried your hand at The Simpsons: Tapped Out, the city-building mobile game developed by EA (Electronic Arts)? It's been a fun ride for twelve years since its launch in 2012 on Apple's App Store and in 2013 on Google Play. Unfortunately, EA has announced that they will be sunsetting the game.

When Is It Shutting Down?

In-app purchases for The Simpsons: Tapped Out have already been disabled. Starting October 31st, 2024, the game will no longer be available for download. However, if you're eager to enjoy it as long as you can, you'll be able to keep playing until the servers go offline on January 24th, 2025.

EA's announcement included a heartfelt thank you to all the players who have been part of this journey. The collaboration with The Simpsons and The Walt Disney Company enabled players to create their own versions of Springfield for over a decade.

Will You Play The Simpsons: Tapped Out Before It's Gone?

If you've never played and are curious to try it out before it disappears, here's a brief overview. The Simpsons: Tapped Out puts you in the mayor's seat of Springfield, tasked with rebuilding the town after Homer's accidental meltdown obliterates it.

From Homer's haphazard rebuilding efforts to Marge, Lisa, and Bart's endeavors to get life back on track, you have the freedom to shape Springfield as you see fit. You can engage with characters like Fat Tony, dress up Bart as Daredevil, expand the town to Springfield Heights, and even manage the Kwik-E-Mart like Apu.

The game operates on a freemium model, regularly updating with content tied to the TV show's storylines and real-life holiday events. While downloading the game is free, donuts are the premium currency that powers the more exciting aspects of the game.

If you're interested in experiencing The Simpsons: Tapped Out before it's gone, you can still grab it from the Google Play Store. And don't forget to check out our coverage of eBaseball: MLB Pro Spirit, a new mobile game launching this fall!
