Conquer the Legendary Battle of Hulao Gate in Dynasty Warriors: Origins
The Battle of Hulao Gate, a pivotal and notoriously challenging stage in Dynasty Warriors: Origins' Chapter 2, requires strategic planning and execution. This guide will help you overcome this epic encounter and defeat Dong Zhuo.
Initial Strategy:
Begin by capturing the four enemy bases in the map's bottom right corner. Securing two triggers a cutscene introducing mounted cavalry. Defeat these, including commander Zhang Liao, to acquire the twin pike weapon. After conquering all four bases, assault Hulao Gate.
Facing Dong Zhuo's Forces:
The initial assault on Hulao Gate is chaotic. Prioritize protecting Cao Cao until he initiates his Grand Tactic, significantly weakening the defenses.
Lu Bu's Intervention:
Dong Zhuo will deploy Lu Bu. Avoid direct confrontation. Engaging Lu Bu is suicidal. Instead, eliminate surrounding officers to maintain morale, which Lu Bu's presence significantly drains. Lu Bu will eventually target your main base and Yuan Shao. Resist the urge to pursue him; Liu Bei's forces will temporarily contain Lu Bu, giving you a time window to defeat Dong Zhuo. Once the game indicates Liu Bei's retreat, prioritize Dong Zhuo's defeat.
Defeating Dong Zhuo:
Resupply at a conquered base if needed. Capture the northern and western bases to prepare for the final assault. When ready, charge towards Dong Zhuo.
Dong Zhuo will unleash two Grand Tactics involving fireballs. The first requires destroying two catapults. Use Musou Rage if available, clearing a path through soldiers to the catapults. The second Grand Tactic necessitates defeating an officer, possibly alongside Diaochan (who has defected). Dueling Diaochan, while challenging, is advantageous to avoid being overwhelmed.
Once the Grand Tactics are thwarted, Dong Zhuo's forces will be significantly weakened. Your army's morale should be high enough to overwhelm the remaining forces. Dian Wei might even initiate his own Grand Tactic, further simplifying the final confrontation with Dong Zhuo. Defeat Dong Zhuo to complete the mission.
