Path of Exile 2's Endgame Rituals: A Comprehensive Guide

Path of Exile 2 introduces several endgame events, including Breaches, Expeditions, Delirium, and Rituals. This guide focuses on Rituals, a revamped mechanic from previous PoE leagues.

Identifying and Initiating Ritual Events

Atlas Map Node with Ritual Icon

On the Atlas, Ritual Altar map nodes are marked with a red pentagram icon. A Ritual Precursor Tablet, slotted into a completed Lost Tower, guarantees a Ritual encounter on a chosen node.

Once in a Ritual map, several Altars will spawn. Each map features a shared random modifier impacting enemy types and mechanics (e.g., massive rat swarms or life-draining blood pools).

Interact with an Altar to initiate a wave of enemies. Remain within the designated circle; venturing into the shadows ends the event without rewards. Successfully completing all Rituals on a map marks it as complete.

The King in the Mists: The Pinnacle Boss

'An Audience With The King,' a unique currency item, unlocks a fight against the King in the Mists, the Ritual Pinnacle Boss. Obtain this item through Ritual Favours. Use it at your Realmgate to access the boss fight.

The King in the Mists' mechanics mirror his campaign counterpart. Practice is available in Act 1 Cruel difficulty in the Freythorn zone. Defeating him rewards 2 Ritual Passive Skill points, a chance at unique items, powerful currencies, and Omen items.

Ritual Passive Skill Tree

Ritual Passive Skill Tree

The Ritual Passive Skill Tree, accessible via the Atlas Passive Skill Tree, enhances Ritual events. It offers nodes to reduce Tribute requirements, improve rewards, and boost unique currency drop chances. The tree features eight Notable nodes and eight nodes increasing the King in the Mists' difficulty. Each Notable node requires defeating the King in the Mists at the increased difficulty.

Notable Ritual Passive Nodes:

Notable Passive Node Effect Requirements
Promised Devotion Ritual Altar skills deal 25% increased Damage. Deferring Favours requires 50% less Tribute, appearing 50% sooner N/A
From The Mists Rituals contain 2 extra packs of enemies N/A
Reinvigorated Sacrifices Revived monsters gain 20% Toughness and deal 10% more damage, but no longer penalize Tribute. From The Mists
Spreading Darkness Maps always contain 4 Ritual Altars N/A
Between Two Worlds Rituals always contain a Wildwood Wisp, increasing Tribute earned Spreading Darkness
Ominous Portents Monster waves spawn 25% faster, but Favours have a 50% higher chance of containing an Omen. N/A
He Approaches Revived monsters have a 20% chance to be Magic or Rare. 50% chance for 'An Audience With The King'. Ominous Portents
Tempting Offers Re-roll Favours an extra time at 25% reduced Tribute cost N/A

Prioritize 'From The Mists,' 'Spreading Darkness,' and 'Ominous Portents' initially. Then, focus on 'Tempting Offers' and 'He Approaches' for increased high-value Omen and boss encounter chances.

Ritual Rewards: Tribute and Favours

Completing Rituals grants Tribute, a temporary currency used to purchase Favours (randomized items). More Altars completed increase Tribute and unlock more Favour options, including Rare gear and high-tier Currencies. 'An Audience With The King' is exclusively obtained through Favours.

Omen Currencies: Powerful Modifiers

Omens are exceptionally valuable items that modify other Currency items. Examples include Omens of Annulment (restricting modifier removal) and Omens of Alchemy (restricting modifier addition). Their effects are consumed upon use.

Beyond Favours, Ritual enemies drop high-tier Currencies (Exalted Orbs, Vaal Orbs, etc.). The King in the Mists has a chance to drop Uniques from a pool exclusive to the Ritual event. The list of Omen currencies is extensive and includes variations like Sinistral/Dextral Alchemy, Coronation, Exaltation, and Annulment Omens, as well as Omens of Refreshment, Resurgence, Corruption, Amelioration, Whittling, and Erasure.
