TouchArcade Rating:

Capcom recently rolled out a significant update for their premium mobile ports, *Resident Evil 7 biohazard*, *Resident Evil 4* Remake, and *Resident Evil Village*, all available for free on iOS and iPadOS. This update, deployed just an hour ago, introduces an online DRM (Digital Rights Management) system that verifies your purchase history upon launching the games. When you start any of these titles, the system checks whether you own the game or any DLC, and only then proceeds to the title screen. If you decline the check, the game will close. While this process only takes a few seconds when connected to the internet, it's a stark departure from the previous ability to play these games offline. Now, an internet connection is mandatory for each launch, which is a significant downside for many players.
Before this update, I personally tested all three games and confirmed they were fully functional offline. However, with the new update, opting out of the purchase verification leads to the game closing immediately. While some might not mind this change, I find the addition of online DRM to games that were already purchased quite frustrating. Ideally, Capcom should consider alternative methods for purchase verification, perhaps implementing checks less frequently or finding a solution that doesn't hinder offline play.
This change makes it harder to recommend Capcom's premium-priced mobile ports. If you haven't yet tried these games, they're available for free on iOS, iPadOS, and macOS. You can download *Resident Evil 7 biohazard* [ttpp], *Resident Evil 4* Remake [ttpp], and *Resident Evil Village* [ttpp]. What are your thoughts on this update? Do you own any of these modern *Resident Evil* games on iOS?
